The closest heuristic I have to Marco’s idea is watching the Daily Show and listening to More or Less on the BBC. Neither of these necessarily get me the most important stuff (and there’s a massive Canadian gap in my coverage if I stick to this regime exclusively) but they give me a kind of broad overview of what’s sort of important, which suggests avenues for Google searches. ...
